Rise of the Dragonlords
Replace entire set of season decks with new ones that have the Neutral Units attacking in various ways. Haven’t thought this one out, but the whole set of season cards would need to change in order for Neutrals to attack and bad things to happen to the player factions. It may require extra minis or make the neutrals more powerful.

Great idea I think.

Maybe you can add cardboard tokens to represent different dragon lords, each with its own special rules. I envision most of them is really tough hexagon units that also give some kind of negative effect on the game and perhaps a boost to other neutral units in the same (or perhaps also adjacent) areas. The dragon lords will of course spawn from the season cards.

Interesting ideas. A couple thoughts right off.

Resurgence of the Dragonlords
What would the victory be, too? Same as before, or some alternate victory to drive out the Dragonlords themselves?

Well, in the Rune Age scenario, the Dragonlords win when all players dead, and the players win when they defeat the Highlord Margath as remember. So the scenario simply runs through an event deck that almost all do bad things to the players. That was why I thought the season cards should be replaced. I like the idea of having a set of neutral season cards that only get drawn during the season they come up, but it may end up being too random as you could get 3 neutral events in a year or only 1 or 2 in 2 years - say if you have like 2 winters cards in a row. Maybe spring and fall events for the neutrals so that you have at least 2 per year. Balancing the events would be pretty hard to do, but I think a co-op version of Runewars has some potential. :D

You can maybe prep the season deck so that Margath appear after a couple of years, and the first to kill him/her (whatever the gender is) wins the game. Alternatively he/she can appear after a set amount of time, say after six years. Or when a certain number of dragon lords have been killed.

I do agree fully on your last sentence -- It would be difficult but awesome.
