Runewars and Mage Knight are massively different games. Mage Knight is an advanture but has no area control or resource management.My gams of Runewars usually take 5-7 hours. That's with the expansion + all optional rules. The only game I've had that ever took under 3 hours was a 2p versus my wife where she smashed me right at the outset.
Cyclades is a good game so check that out. Also check out Kemet. RW is awesome but too long for your needs if you're looking for 2-3 hours. Mage Knight doesn't match your criteria at all.
