Would it be too much of a stretch to suggest A Touch of Evil? You're not questing, as such, but the aim is to be the first to take down the big bad (it can also be played co-op or in teams), by exploring locations in the hope of finding useful items/powers, fighting off the big bad's minions, and surviving the various horrible things that happen. The board is fixed, but each location has its own deck of cards to keep things thematic and interesting. Ff you add the expansions, the game is huge, too, since each expansion adds an extra board which is just as big as the one in the base game.
I love Runewars, but you can't really play it without fighting the other players. It's definitely more a war game than an adventure game.
