Other than the balance concern (which would also be my primary concern), this type reward can be abused. For example, in Game of Thrones, I've seen many "attacks" designed to strengthen both players hand of house cards. The same could be done in Runewars with influence.
Agree, though as you say it's typically too much hassle to abuse.
