I find it hard to understand a game from reading rules. And I'm always amazed by people who read a game's rules and then decide whether they want to buy it or form an opinion on it just from that! That's a whole level of boardgaming that eludes me entirely. Maybe bec I'm relatively new to boardgames.
Someone teaching you the game is always a huge help. I'm pretty sure if i could get some one to take me through Magic Realm, it really would be a snap.
Unfortunately, in my "gaming group" (aka, my family), I'm the one who has to teach everyone else, and if i don't learn it, nobody else will. Very few games come with a tutorial video from the publisher (for good reason), FFG's Game of Thrones Board Game 2nd Ed being the only one that comes to mind as an example of a very good one.
So, that's where i either have to solo it or rely on the greatness of BGG to provide an awesome video play-through.
