Eek... not to be mean, but Runewars is the LEAST complicated game I find hitting the table these days with my playgroup. Compared to Mage Knight, High Frontier, Bios: Megafauna, Republic of Rome, or even FFG titles like Android, TI3, or Starcraft this is a fairly straightforward game.

Maybe this is an issue of expectations?

edit: sorry, that does sound mean, so I apologize. Here's what I will say: with Runewars, it all makes a fair amount of sense other than duels during the hero phase, and the expansion adds extra options without adding much complication. If you are going to do a solo play through, you could even skip the hero phase in the first summer turn so that you can get the hang of everything else. By the end of winter, I guarantee you it will all make sense and you can add the hero phase back in for the next year.

Its all just a matter of personality. Mage Knight for example: I taught this game a friend last weak, we played the first reconnaissance scenario. I taught him quickly the basic rules, he read the character descriptions and the site reference cards... And then we played. He had almost no questions and played the game like if he already had played the game before. He even beat me by one fame point (which is no biggie in the tutorial scenario ;) ) This is because Mage Knight too is very intuitive and if you play it with common sense, you can't do much wrong.

I'm sure there are a lot of people who have big problems with Mage Knight or with Runewars. For others these games are not complicated at all!
