You still carry out the applicable steps so units like Knights will still draw Tactics cards and such if they get specials.

Can you give me a reference to the rules where this is stated? Or is it something Corey has mentioned somewhere?

Since Home Realms are always considered "Friendly" to you, and Enemy to everyone one else, moving in there is considered a battle.

On the first page of the "Rulings from Corey" document I've compiled, there are several questions discussing this. Note that all these rulings came from Corey; I don't put anything in that document that is just fan speculation or guesses, but only answers that people have received directly from Corey.

Among the questions is one that clarifies that moving into an enemy Home Realm is considered a battle. It also clarifies that strictly speaking, you would still draw cards for all your units in that battle, even though there is no opposition. For most units, these will just be basically burning through cards, but for units like Necromancers and Knights, they can have other effects, too. Some players might choose (to save time) to just house rule to ONLY draw for the units that such effects may matter, and ignore the other units.

Note, however, that because it is a battle, the defender can still have some tricks up his sleeve. For instance, if the attacker brings in only 2 units to the empty home realm area, thinking he's going to take it easily, the defender can play "Summon Lightning" at the beginning of the battle to nuke them. So be careful, even when taking undefended home realms or unitless Strongholds.
