BattleLore is a completely different system than Runewars. Runewars is a traditional board game that, as many have said already, is at a really good place. It feels like a complete game.

BattleLore, however, is more like a board-miniatures game hybrid. It has lots of tokens, cards, and a board (like you would expect from many board games), but it adds a squad-building component with detailed plastic miniatures that makes it feel like a miniatures game. In these sorts of games, being able to build new squads is part of what keeps it fresh. The entire system is made for expansions. Runewars, on the other hand, doesn't feel like it really needs anything new. It has a decent variety of units (between recruiting neutrals to adding Banners of War). A big thing for me is that Runewars seems to tell a loose narrative while BattleLore is a skirmish game. The Runewars narrative immerses me in a way that the game doesn't feel shallow so I can play it again and again. Skirmish games, though, can get old after a while, so new units really breathe new life into the game.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a Dwarf/Orc expansion for Runewars, but Runewars doesn't need that the way BattleLore does. Especially if BattleLore starts being supported by Organized Play with tournaments and things.
