I haven't played Conquest of Nerath to compare, but comparing Runewars to Runebound isn't really all that valid - they are very different games and don't even try to do the same thing.The questing in Runewars isn't intended to be a full-on adventure sub-game, it's just one means to an end (IE, gathering runes), and thus isn't intended to replace Runebound in any way.
It would be like trying to compare Galaxy Trucker with Space Alert.
