Runewars is a well balanced game in which each faction has its own strengths and weaknesses. If Corey decided to add more factions, large amounts of playtesting would be needed to ensure the Dwarves and the Orcs are well-balanced against the other races. To back up my stance mathematically:Case 1: Minimum number of 2-P games
4 (Dwarves being matched up against another faction, excluding Orcs) + 4 (Orcs being matched up against another faction, excluding Dwarves) + 1 (Dwarves vs. Orcs) = 9 games
Case 2: Minimum number of 3-P games
2-A Dwarves and Orcs are both involved
4 games
2-B Either Dwarves or Orcs are involved
2*(4C2)= 12 games
Case 3: Minimum number of 4-P games
3-A Dwarves and Orcs are both involved
4C2= 6 games
3-B Either Dwarves or Orcs are involved
2*(4C3)=8 games
Case 4: Minimum number of 5-P games
4-A Dwarves and Orcs are both involved
4C3= 4 games
4-B Either Dwarves or Orcs are involved
2 games
Case 5: Minimum number of 6-P games
1 game
Total number of minimum playtest games: 9+4+12+6+8+4+2+1= 46
In summary, playtesting new factions is a daunting task, so that's probably why Banners of War just added upon existing factions as opposed to introducing new factions.
