Reply: Runewars:: General:: Re: Runewars vs Cyclades vs Kemet vs ... ?

While I can't speak to Runewars, I can say that KeMet and Cyclades are great games. So far, everyone I've introduced to those two games really enjoyed them and the games are intense, yet stay about two hours. I'd describe Cyclades as a bit lighter than KeMet and easier to attract new gamers. I don't like auction games, but the auctioning in this game I found a good mechanic and don't mind it at all. I do feel there to be a bit of a balance issue with Cyclades, as players who get Aries early on can start to take the lead, but this can be remedied by working together a bit against the leader. KeMet has a lot of depth to the tech/prayer trees, so it has a lot more drawing power for the more hardcore gamer. My gaming group also feels this to be a superbly balanced game, which pitches one right into battle; whereas, Cyclades gives a feel that one can turtle up a bit, building yourself up. While I think these two games are similar, I think they both scratch a different itch. I'll keep Cyclades for a lighter game and KeMet for when we really want an aggressive battle. I keep looking at Runewars, as it sounds great, but it's difficult to get three or four players that want to set aside a solid four hours of play on most weeknights. Hope this helps a bit.
