After owning this game for just over 6 months, I finally got my wife to play it. She played Latari and I played Uthuk. She decided to quit after the 3rd year which took about two hours. By the end, I had two runes and she had one. In the very last season, I invaded her home realm and tried to take her stronghold. It was my first time planning ahead to attack across a frozen river, which was really fun. Unfortunately, she got to retreat my Chaos Lord which I think would have done some heavy damage. We didn't quite win and the Elves lived the day be repelling the savage invasion.Interestingly, my wife was actually okay with it. She plays Rune Age readily with me (though it's never really her pick for a game to play), so maybe her familiarity with the world helped her get used to some of the concepts. She said the game was really complex, but actually rather fun. Her one complaint is that it takes too long. She said she will probably never play it for more than two hours. That was unfortunate, but hey, at least she has a moderately favorable opinion of Runewars.
As an aside, I put my two painted dragons on the board tonight for the first time since painting them. They are the only ones painted so far, but seeing them on the board made me quite giddy with excitement. I am firmly of the opinion that even a bad paint job makes these minis better. It's just so cool to see them painted!
