Either? Really depends on price and availability.I have the original edition and play it with revised rules. There's a sheet on FFG's site that walks though (most of) the updates, and they're really, legitimately fairly easily to apply to the old edition. A couple of orders change slightly to incorporate heroes as well as units; a few other cards change; setup is different; and a few other nontrivial but not complicated changes. So it's perfectly possible to pull this off.
The 3D mountain aspect of the first edition is . . . nice? I don't think it's very visually appealing myself, but it does avoid missing the fact that a red border is present. (I do find myself missing the blue borders, despite the clear markings, and wish that there had been plastic "water" inserts as well. :) ). The fact that Banners of War doesn't have mountains or cuts in the tiles for mountain pieces really kind of argues against any value in having the original just for that.
