Hi,Yesterday we played our first game of RW (4 players). We were quite excited after reading the rules but then the game seemed a little strange. We play both TI3 and GoT so we thought we knew what to expect.
Initially, we were surprised by the nunmber of neutral units on the board, which created a natural wall between players. Adding to the fact that the gasme is about collecting the runes rather thatn defeating other players, we spent the first three yeas just fighting the neutrals and exploring our own backyards. I think the first battle between players took place in spring of year 4.
Although we know that RW is not supposed to be 'a wargame' but for the first three years it felt like we were playing four different solitate games. Later, it didn't start being much different anyway as most of us focused on collecting runes via heroes.
I'm eager to hear (read) your comments on that. Is it usual? Were we turtling a little too much as it was the first game? Can neutal units be handled faster (diplomacy) quicker? The problem was not that there were too few battles but due to the high number of neutral units it felt more like playing Baldur's Gate on four different computers
