Hmm, things have changed, then; I've received replacements for accidentally self-damaged things before. But it may depend on the availability of the stock, too (and I haven't had such replacements a whole lot, so I don't know if I just got lucky).
If they've indeed changed their policy on that, though, it's kind of sad; they've always been the top-notch customer service when I've had issues.
