I think this is a good point. I think the difference between games like Monopoly and the truly good Ameritrash games of today isn't that there is luck, but that with good games there's ways to manage and mitigate the luck.

Monopoly, you are at the mercy of the dice. Sure, the trading and auctioning aspects can take some "skill", but in the end, the dice end up having a lot of power.

In games like Runewars or TI3, there is sitll luck involved with card draws and battles, but putting together a good army/fleet to attack at certain times can help reduce the impact of luck (although the door for a really poor showing is always open). The ones I hear complain most about the luck factor in these games tend to be those who make their strategy too narrow to accommodate unforeseen setbacks.
