I'm not sure how much "fun" RW would be without the combat. I see Runewars as a fantasy war game, with an element of adventure questing in it. The comment above regarding combat in RW made no sense to me. The combat system uses unit initiative to determine order of combat, but the player decides which units participate.Anyway back to OP question. How about Prophecy. The movement in Prophecy feels less random than Talisman. Talisman is another good choice though. There is always going to be an element of randomness in these types of game. I didn't care for the D&D dungeon crawl games by FF.
Truthfully I haven't found a board game yet that provides the RPG/MMO PC/Video experience very well. The WOW Adventure game mentioned above is another decent option though.
