Ow that is weird, Seems like a really cool game in my opinion. I decided upon this after asking around here a couple of months ago and then my wife got it for me this xmas together with "a touch of evil".
Now i cannot wait to begin testing it!:D
The challenge is that the game runs just too long for 'games night'. While it isn't TI, once you explain the rules, them check the rules half a dozen times for nuances, and everyone warps their head around the basic concepts down, the first game can easily go over 4 hours, if not more.
I tried with my wife once, and she basically fell asleep. I tried with a group of gamers at my games club, and it dragged to a halt after two years.
It's one of those games that people love to say 'yes, but once you know the rules it speeds up'. Indeed... but how do you get to that mythical phase of everyone knowing the rules?
That moves it out of the sphere of games to play on pot luck games night, and into the sphere of games you need to prearrange, and ideally pre-learn. But I find prearranged 'special event' games are a much rarer occurrence, and there is a long list of contenders for that slot.
If you have a regular small group of epic strategy games loving friends, Rune Wars is a no brainer. But without that, you may find it an uphill struggle to get it played.
Yeh i understand what you mean. And sometimes your gaming circle can be a problem.I have noticed that in our circle tha game that gets played the most is "Descent". Most tend to say when you ask them what game is best, that they like Descent and Arkham horro most, but we have only managed to play Arkham twice! So we will see with this game, I like the idea alot and can see myself playing it if anyone else wants to a lot. But you never know once you have introduced it to them hehe.
