I'm not sure if that's true. There are plenty of difficult mathematics problems that separate those who know enough math to use a formula in a fairly obvious scenario from those who understand mathematics deeply.
Consider this question:
Let a, b, c, and d be any integer.
Prove that (b-a)(c-a)(d-a)(c-b)(c-d)(b-d) is divisible by 12.
I don't think that math can be dismissed as being easy to come...
