It will certainly be compatible, but I'm glad to have the 1st edition.

Faction sheets in the revised edition are not punchboard, but instead heavy card stock (similar to the Civilization sheets in Sid Meier’s Civilization: The Board Game).

Nice for a change that when a newer edition comes out & I don't feel like I'm missing out on some frills or components. In fact, this may bump the value of 1st edition Runewars.
Damn you GMT and PD-verlag.

GMT have me not having played my owned for a year copy of Dominant Species due to the 3rd print. I could eventually change it but the snow board I don't like. I want the new tiles though and new cards are ok / both are acceptble but I would had preferred a design mix.

If I buy Imperial I can upgrade to Imperial 2030 but I miss out on the money and new tank pieces and the old money look worse. Also I for sure can't sell either copy if I decide one is better. I would had preferred to get Imperial 2030 first and then got the old map and bonds but that can't be done. They could simply had printed the old map on the back side of the new one and have the game ship with the old bond card board to.

I don't know what to purchase.

Regarding the box size I suppose the new one won't be able to hold the expansions so that's an advantage of the old one. New one will require multiple boxes instead. Also if they make the price lower (I guess shipping may be a significant factor vs production cost so maybe that's a good one) that will make the expansion feel more expensive =P
