I would also rule in favor of the sorcerer. Just as you said, there are reward cards like the Minor Healing that were ruled similarly.From the uFAQ:
Q: If a hero has the Minor Healing Reward card and during
a duel draws an Orb result at the same time the enemy hero
deals enough damage to kill him, can Minor Healing be
used to heal damage (assuming a successful wisdom test)?
A: Yes, if the test is successful the hero will heal, which may
prevent the damage from killing him.

So as the sorcerers health simultaneously is set to 2 while he receives 1 damage, the sorcerer should live... at least one more round :)
