I'm not sure if you were disagreeing with me, but I definitely agree that the game works great with 2, 3, or 4. The vast majority of my games of Runewars have been with 2 players, in fact! :)
I think the OP's concern was that when he games, he games with a group, so it's never just him and one other person. For him, the 2 and 3 player games aren't really "options". (Unless I'm misunderstanding his post, of course).
