Thread: Runewars:: Rules:: Question about battling routed units and cities

Two questions about the rules here, and I'm sorry if this is already covered in the rulebook but I've read it about 15 times already and I'm still not sure. I am using the revised edition.

1. Let's say an opponent started a battle and lost, thus had to retreat all of his units into an empty hex and rout them all. If I then activate that hex and attack with one of my troops, does that initiate a "battle," meaning do I automatically kill all of those troops? My reasoning is that I am starting a battle with nobody, winning 1 strength to 0, and thus all of the already routed units are destroyed.

2. If a city is destroyed through a Raze a City card or another means, does that mean you can now build a stronghold there? Basically, does the destroyed city still count as a "city" in terms of the Fortify card (which says you cannot build a stronghold in an area with a city)? We have been playing that you cannot build a stronghold in a hex with a destroyed city, but this could drastically change gameplay if I'm interpreting this wrong.

Thank you for your time!
